A dental implant is a surgically inserted titanium post that is fixed to your jawbone to replace the roots of your missing tooth. Titanium is a biocompatible material that is considered the gold standard for the implant procedure. This is because it typically doesn’t cause allergic reactions in the recipients . Implants are engineered to mimic the part that a natural tooth root would play in your mouth. The strength of the bond formed between a dental implant and your jawbone is sometimes more intense than the bond between your bone and natural teeth. To put it in layman’s terms, the implants are screwed into your jaw, where they are allowed to heal and bond to the bone over the course of 2-3 months. Dental implants are comfortable and functional because they distribute biting force just like natural teeth. An implant can replace a single missing tooth, multiple tooth or even a complete arch . The procedure is patient friendly and pain free.
When your mouth lacks the space necessary to properly fit each tooth nature has provided, your dentist may suggest the tooth be removed to prevent overcrowding or damage to your other teeth. This is particularly the case with wisdom teeth that do not erupt through the gumline, and instead remain trapped (or, impacted) beneath the bone in the jaw or may be partly erupted. In such case the tooth has to be surgically removed from within the bone.
Irregular arrangement of teeth is a major concern for many. But they can be corrected with braces. Braces means wires that are placed over the teeth to pull or push the teeth to the required position. Orthodontic braces is a fixed treatment that takes a minimum of one year to obtain expected results. The treatment may sometime require selective extraction which is decided according to necessity .
Bridges and crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants. Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover or "cap" a damaged tooth or cover an implant. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you’re missing one or more teeth. They are cemented to natural teeth or implants surrounding the space where the tooth once stood. In addition to strengthening a damaged tooth, bridges and crowns can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, which can result in a bad bite. Bridges and crowns help prevent this from happening. A crown may be necessary to
• Replace a large filling when there isn't enough tooth remaining
• Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
• Restore a fractured tooth
• Attach a bridge
• Cover a dental implant
• Cover a discolored or poorly shaped tooth
• Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
Various varities of crowns and bridges are available which may vary according to person, function and esthetics.
A complete denture is a removable appliance used when all teeth within a jaw have been lost and need to be prosthetically replaced. In contrast to a partial denture, a complete denture is constructed when there are no more teeth left in an arch, hence it is an exclusively tissue-supported prosthesis. It is important to have a complete denture to
• Improve chewing efficiency
• Improve speech
There are several varieties of materials of complete denture out of which BPS dentures is considered to be the recent and most efficient. Complete denture can also be supported from bone with implants, provided there is adequate bone present.
Once the tooth shows symptoms of pain, it is understood that it has crossed the stage of normal filling and requires a root canal treatment. Root canal treatment defines deep cleaning of a tooth. When a tooth decay is left untreated in the initial stages , the infection spreads deeper into so what is called as the “pulp tissue”. The pulp tissue contains nerves and blood vessels. The inflammation or infection of pulp can have a variety of causes most commonly deep decay. In addition, an injury to a tooth may also cause pulp damage. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess. Depending on the extent of damage to the tooth structure due to decay, a post and core build up may or may not be required to stabilize the tooth.
Steps of root canal:
• Caries excavation
• Extripation of infected pulp tissue
• Cleaning of pulp chamber
• Filling of the root canal
• Tooth preparation with crown
A tooth decay is a black discolouration which serves as a platform for microbial growth . Tooth coloured resin fillings are being used to treat such decayed tooth when noticed in the early stages . The light cured resin filling adheres to the tooth surface so well that it mimics the lost tooth structure. The decay is removed and etched and bonded before restoring back with the resin cement.2018-07-25T04:57:57
A procedure done for teeth cleaning. It removes tartar and plaque build-up from the surfaces of the teeth as well as those hidden in between and under the gums. When deposits on the teeth stays rigid and unable to remove with regular brushing, it indicates that a professional cleaning is required. The deposits provide a platform for extensive microbial growth. The surface of the tooth must be plain and polished to prevent accumulation of germs. The microbes accumulated as deposits pushes the gums down to occupy more place , thus eating away the bone underneath. spacing between teeth after cleaning is often misunderstood to be an after effect of cleaning which is actually the amount of bone lost due to accumulated microbes left untreated . A yearly cleaning from the dental office is recommended to have healthy gums and bone.2018-07-25T04:54:46
